Sources & method

Follow the evidence.

A forceful argument still has to show its workings. This site links its accounts to documents, recordings and reporting so you can see what supports a claim, what remains disputed and where the evidence stops.

Original material

Records link to filings, transcripts, official releases, posts and recordings where available.

Reporting and context

Publisher attribution distinguishes reporting from the statements or documents it examines.

Dates and findings

Case records separate allegations, testimony, judgments and subsequent status. Charts identify their observation dates.

Social cards are reconstructed views of archived posts. They preserve the supplied wording and link back to originals or archive captures. Book summaries and reporting excerpts link to their source material.

The assessment rules

True

The precise factual claim is supported; no material qualification is missing.

Mostly true

The central claim holds, with a limited factual error or qualification that does not reverse its meaning.

Mixed

An inseparable claim has material supported and contradicted elements. Components are assessed separately wherever possible.

Mostly false

The central impression is contradicted despite a limited factual element.

False

Reliable evidence contradicts the central factual claim.

Needs context

Literal wording can be supported but an omitted baseline, timeframe or scope materially changes its meaning. Outside the gauge.

Unverified

Available evidence is insufficient or unresolved. Outside the gauge; never automatically false.

Promise / action

Announcements, signing, implementation and outcomes are assessed separately. Outside the gauge.

Opinion

Value judgment, rhetoric or an undefined prediction without a presently checkable factual claim. Outside the gauge.

We’d love to hear from you.

We aim to make The 47 Files the most comprehensive Trump aggregator on the internet—bringing together his words, actions and the reporting around them in one place that’s easy to explore.

We won’t always get everything right. Sometimes we’ll make mistakes, miss something important or overlook a useful source. That’s where you can help. We welcome your comments, suggestions and corrections—whether you’ve spotted an error, found something we should include or have an idea to make the site better.
